Congressman Leonard Boswell, in his last few months as the representative of Benton County in the U.S. House, visited the Benton County Jail and the Emergency Management Agency Emergency Operations Center that his office helped fund.

Boswell worked with local leaders and FEMA on funding for replacing the jail after the 2008 flood. He also submitted a $500,000 budget appropriation for the new EOC, which was included in the new facility.

Boswell toured the jail and sheriff's office with jailer Mike Ferguson, along with local leaders and two of his staff members. Then he visited with EMA Director Scott Hansen and EMA Commission Steve Meyer about the new EOC. Meyer, the Garrison Fire Chief, also discussed Garrison fire departments recovery from the storm that caused considerable damage the the Emergency Services Building.

Because of the redistricting that occurs every 10 years, Boswell will no longer have Benton County in the district which he represents.
