Chris Bendull was not on the ballot for the Fourth Ward Vinton City Council seat during last Tueday’s election, but he won.

He now has 10 days to decide if he wants to serve on the council for the next year. The position will be on the ballot during the November 2012 election, even though there are no other city offices scheduled to be on teh ballot for the next year.

With no candidates on the ballot, Bendull received four write-in votes. Charlies Dennison received three write-in votes, Scott Merchan, two, and several others received one.

City Council member Lisa Vermedahl chose not to seek re-election in the Fourth Ward. Bendull, if he accepts the position, will join the council in January, along with Tami Stark, who won the at-large seat. She will replace Don Burkey, who chose not to seek re-election.

Council members meet twice each month, usually the second and fourth Thursdays, and also participate in a variety of committee meetings. Council members are paid $2,000 per year for their service.
