One of the very first exercises for new AmeriCorps members when they arrive at the North Central campus in Vinton is to become familiar with their new city.

Accompanied by team leaders, the members walk around Vinton, visiting attractions and downtown businesses, introducing themselves.

Members of the new Maple Unit did that on Saturday. Team leaders Barbara Hogan and Kelly Van Sickle accompanied a group of approximately 20 new AmeriCorps members. They visited several Vinton locations, including the 5th Street Koffee Haus, where they posed for a group photo.

The Koffee Haus is a favorite among AmeriCorps members and team leaders, who often use the wireless internet service to file their many reports for the federal program.
