Nearly 400 students participated in the East Central Iowa Choral Directors’ Association Honor Choir Festival held at the Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School on Monday, February 20.
Students in 5th through 8th grade represented dozens of elementary schools and middle schools throughout the east-central Iowa area. Districts represented at the festival included Belle Plaine, Calamus Wheatland, Iowa Valley, Oelwein, Cedar Rapids public and parochial schools, Solon, Tipton, Vinton-Shellsburg, Waukon, Anamosa, Center-Point Urbana, Central City, Linn-Mar, and Allamakee.

5th & 6th Grade: Baylee Bruce, Alyssa Clark, Meredith Glynn, Alicia Morin, Matthew Andreesen, Clint Hill, Jace Kelchen, Devin Tilson, Will Dudley, Lexi Bries, Mady Rule, Allissa Hendryx, Casey Funk, Collin Henry, Olivia Coder, Isaac Wiley
7th & 8th Grade: Kendra Peterson, Alyssa Bunge, Hannah Haisman, Kristen Halstead, Raynee Kraklio, Erica Noe, Keri Webster, Erin Cantrell, Haley Dinderman, Brittany Grendler, Abby Scheel, Destiny Swallom, Olivia Walker, Tanner Bird, Noah Claypool, Alex Dick, Clay Follman, Logan Holst, Caleb Kruckenberg, Blake Patterson, Tyler Rasmussen, Thor Shoemaker, Owen Sloop
Students spent the day preparing and rehearsing for their evening Grand Concert performance. Guest conductors were Mrs. Jennifer Walker conducting the 5th & 6th Grade Choir and Mr. Matt Walker conducting 7th and 8th Grade Choir. Mrs. Walker is the music teacher at Novak Elementary in Marion and Mr. Walker is the Associate Director of Choral Activities at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids.
Nearly one thousand family, friends and community members attended the evening Grand Concert where the 5th & 6th grade choir performed followed by the Vinton-Shellsburg Chamber Singers. The 7th & 8th grade choir then closed the performance.
Vinton-Shellsburg High School students Jacob Bunge, Matt Lash, Alyssa Cantrell along with Mrs. Judy Trygstad also accompanied the choirs. A special thank you them as well as to Lois Martin, Eric Mohlis and Gib Ziemer for all their work organizing this event.
