If you love going to the movies at the Palace Theatre in Vinton, thank the Girl Scouts.
We will get to that in a moment, but first…
March marks the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts organization. The local Troops will have special events later this month to mark the centennial.
Former Girl Scout leader Julie Zimmer, who was involved in 1987, when the Girl Scouts celebrated their 75th year, has shared some of her photographs with Vinton Today.
We also invite any current or former Girl Scouts to share their memories and photographs with Vinton Today readers. Email your memories and photos to vintontoday@hotmail.com. And current leaders, please send us photos of your Centennial events (or let us know when and where they are, and we will come take photos).
Now, about the Palace…
"I met Lu Karr when we were both Girl Scout volunteers," says Julie. "We were later co-chairs of the local service unit. I think we hatched the plot that led to the Palace theater one night after a service unit meeting. I'm very grateful to have met her and to count her a friend."
Vinton Today congratulates the Girl Scouts for 100 years, and we acknowledge the contribution the organization makes, and its impact on girls (and, as Julie explained, on their leaders). And of course, we LOVE the cookies!
The photos here come from Julie's scrapbooks; we will share more throughout the month.
