The newly-drawn Iowa House District 75 and Senate District 38 have the same Republican faces as the old districts. Representative Dawn Pettengill and Senator Tim Kapucian are running for re-election in the new districts, which both still include BentonCounty.

But at least four Democrats have announced their plans to run as candidates for those positions.

House District 75

Sandra Cronbaugh of Marengo is running for the Democratic nomination for House District 75 in the June 5 primary. She is the owner of the von Essen Galerie in Williamsburg, and helps her husband run the family farm. She is also a member of the Iowa County Economic Development Commission.

Senate District 38

Three Democrats have announced plans to run for the Senate District 38 seat.

Shelley Parbs of rural Urbana is a production worker at Rockwell Collins and is currently the chair of the Regional Workforce Investment Board for Region 10, which covers seven counties surrounding, including Benton and Iowa County. Shelley graduated from Urbana High School in 1981 and received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Mt. Mercy College in 2009. She and her husband Ron, an auto mechanic, have two grown children, Maria and Jason.

Nick Volk of Walford is a vice president at Fairfax State Bank. He is also active in the Knights of Columbus.

LaForest Sherman of Grinnell is a systems QA analyst for Wells Fargo. He’s a certified computer professional, as well as an analyst, trainer and author of business applications for several different industries. LaForest and his wife Winnie have two grown children.

Iowa Senate District 38 includes all of Benton, Iowaand Poweshiek counties. Iowa House District 75 includes all of Benton County and a few northern townships of Iowa County.
