The Vinton Police Department has announced its plans to begin enforcing the city's nusicance ordinances.
City Clerk Andy Lent has been in contact with property owners about buildings still in need of repair of damage caused by the July 11, 201 storm.
Now, the Vinton City Council is wrestling with a third issue related to property appearance: The habit of several area residents to park "construction vehicles" on residential lots.
The council discussed the issue during Thursday's meeting. Mayor Watson said he has been receiving complaints about dump trucks, back hoes and other vehicles parked on the grass in city lots. While some of those belong to construction companies that came to Vinton after the storm, others have been there for years, said the Mayor.
The council members discussed the wording of the proposed rule. They tabled the issue for now, and asked City Attorney Bob Fischer to look into what options the city would have.
Mayor Watson said that it is important to pass an ordinance that the city can enforce effectively. He said he has personally spoken to some of the property owners about vehicles parked in their lots.
