The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is just about completed with the opening of the city parks for the 2012 season. By this coming weekend, April 21, all shelters and restrooms are on schedule to be opened and fully operational for the public to utilize.

The early nice spring temperatures have made everything bloom and grow earlier than expected and has posed for some problems with no part-time/seasonal staff until the end of April or the beginning of May. Please be a little patient with the parks and facilities and utilize them as much as you can.

We are still in the process of trying to finish up the storm damage from last July and we are anticipating having almost all completed by June. We have left the temporary fence in place from Riverside Park to the boat ramp as our tree removers work to get that area cleaned up as quickly as possible. This is being done for safety reasons for the general public and the tree removers’ staff. Thank you for understanding.

If at any time you have a question or see some damage or unsafe area in our parks, give us a call at 472-4164 or stop by the Vinton Recreation Center to talk with one of our staff. Remember, you can always go online to find out what is going on at the VPRD at vprdzone.com.
