News : Lizzie Moen to perform at Farmers Market

(Also Salsa Contest Participants needed for Next Week)

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is happy to announce that Lizzie Moen, recent V/S grad will be playing guitar and singing at the Farmers Market on Thursday, August 9th. The market is held at the Vinton Rail Road Depot from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. every Thursday through September 27th.

Lizzie has been performing her huge list of Country Hits for a long time and has had recent top performances at Riverside’s got Talent and the Jones County Fair. Who knows, this may be the gig that sends her over the top and gets her a national recording contract. Make sure you stop out and enjoy some of those great country favorites.

This week will also be a chance for individuals to sign up to enter their home made salsa in our annual Salsa Contest that will be held at the market on Thursday, Aug 16th. We will once again have three categories; Mild/Fruity/ or Spicy. If you can, please pre-register by calling the VPRD office at 472-4164. Each entry should submit a minimum of one quart of salsa that will be shared with market attendees after the judges taste all the entries.

Make sure you take a walk around the market and enjoy some great baked goods and a lot of delicious produce that vendors have been bringing every week. The grill will be going at every market with either the Benton County Cattleman or Merchants grilling serving up some of Iowa’s great sandwhiches.
