Librarian Virginia Holsten just had that feeling that she had found the right candidate when she interviewed Amy Noe for the children's librarian job at the Vinton library.

"She just fit," said Holsten on Thursday, the day after Noe began working in the basement of the library, where Sharon Rhinehart had been the children's librarian for more than 18 years. More than 20 people applied for the job; Holsten interviewed six of those.

"I always wanted Sharon's job," said Noe, who recently moved to the Garrison area with her husband, Ryan, and children Erica, Lizzie and Austin.

Noe often visited the library with her three children, and was impressed with how Sharon worked with them.

"I knew it was something I always wanted to do," she said. "And now that my youngest is starting kindergarten, this is the perfect time."

The job will be a big change, said Noe, who has spent the last 15 years at home raising her family.

On Thursday morning, Noe was reading to a toddler in the corner of the basement, where she had often brought her young children to listen to Rhinehart read to them. She plans to continue the same programs that Sharon led, as well as trying to add some after-school programs, especially for middle school students. She also said there are plans to try a different summer reading program for 2013.

Noe said she will lead story time at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday. Holsten also plans to schedule an open house event to allow the community and its children a chance to meet Noe.
