The annual Fire Prevention Week ended on Sunday with the traditional pancake breakfast at the Vinton fire station. Wearing pink shirts in honor of breast cancer survivors, including Lisa Staab, the wife of firefighter Chris Staab, the firefighters cooked and served pancakes, scrambled eggs and other breakfast items to several hundred area residents. Young children who attended the breakfast received plastic firefighter hats.
Throughout the week, firefighters visited with school children both in the classrooms and at the fire station, teaching fire safety and fire prevention lessons. Kindergarten and first grade students also had a chance to ride a fire truck.
