Donald H. Frese, 66, of rural Watkins, is the Democratic candidate for the District 3 Board of Supervisors seat.

A 1963 graduate of Norway High School, Don and his wife Cheryl, have three children: Eric, Tara and Keli; and eight grandchildren.

Donald shared the following information with Vinton Today readers:

I have been a member of the Farmer Union and the Farm Bureau, as well as St. Patrick's Church and the Watkins Athletic Association as well as the Norway American Legion. I have been a school board member for Norway and Benton Community for 13 years. I was in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years, with the 301st Field Hospital Unit. I worked in Rapids Equipment for 24 years, and was a member of the annual Negotiation Team (non-union). Later I worked for 20 years at Amana Refrigeration, where I was proud to be a union member. I retired in 2010. I have been active in farming since 1970; I live on a farm between Watkins and Norway.

As a lifetime citizen of Benton County, I have decided to be a candidate for the District 3 Supervisor seat. I am proud to be from Benton County and I believe we have a strong and caring county. I firmly believe that I can improve the quality of life in Benton County through improved communications and an open door policy for questions, comments and concerns. I want to expand and broaden my knowledge of Benton County as well as bring new ideas to the board. Caring for our roads, environment and county property is a priority. I also feel getting our younger generation involved in county government is important. I am not afraid to stand alone, to ask why or why not, or to seek help and advice.

I am a people person who is very interested in what is happening in our county as well as surrounding counties. I have always been a busy and active person and over the years, I have learned if you ask a busy person to help, they will always find the time.
