The open house at the Benton County Nature Center was an opportunity for the members of the Vinton Lion’s Club to see the results of their $2,500 donation to the project.

Several club members attended the open house.

They listened as Conservation Director Matthew Purdy explained the species of wood used on an elevated loft, and discussed other features of the center, which will help area youth (and adults) to learn more about the plants, animals, land and water of Iowa. The Vinton Lions Club donated $2,500 to ongoing efforts to fund, finish and furnish the nature center in 2012.

A favorite attraction is the thunder gourd, which Purdy also demonstrated for Lions members and other visitors.
