The Vinton-Shellsburg School Board may welcome a new member during its meeting tonight.

Todd Wiley has announced his resignation from the board; Superintendent Mary Jo Hainstock is recommending that the board appoint someone either tonight or during the December meeting to complete Wiley’s term.

Area residents have already had an opportunity to send letters or email to the district expressing interest in serving on the school board, Hainstock wrote in her pre-meeting summary for board members. Also, she said, appointing a board member to fill the vacancy would allow the board to move forward with district business.

The person appointed to serve would hold that office until the next school board election, in September of 2013, when the seat will be placed on the ballot.

Wiley has served since September 2003.

New coaches

The board will also act on recommendations from Athletics Director Jim Struve on the hiring of Melanie Davis to coach the VSHS Voyagers Dance Team, Jim Womochil as sophomore basketball coach and Kevin Patterson as assistant varsity basketball coach.
