The members of the VSHS Entrepreneurship class spoke to the VS School Board on Monday about their latest efforts to revive a bit of Vinton business history.
For decades, Vinton Popcorn employed many people and provided a unique product to people throughout the United States. And in January of 1981, former U.S. Hostage Kathryn Koob made Vinton Popcorn famous when she announced on national TV that it was one of the things she missed during her 444 days in captivity.
The Vinton Popcorn facility has been partially demolished now, as the bins that held the corn were recently torn down.
But for the past couple of years, area leaders and school officials have been working together in an effort to revive the Vinton Popcorn name.
A few students of Mr. Vettraino joined the teacher in discussing the project with the school board.
The 11 members of the Entrepreneurship class told the board they are hoping the project will help them to learn how to run a business. The students have been pre-selling their products to area businesses, and have also spoken to area printers about packaging designs.
They also gave out some samples to the school board.
