Le Laton received many honors at a ceremony honoring the local WWII and Korea War veteran in Sept.

Remembering 2012: 2011 VSHS Homecoming Queen Kelly Wagner crowns 2012 Queen Erin Randall.

A professor from Germany stumbled upon a unique story from the history of Vinton when he read a 19th Century letter from a Vinton man who sent $2,000 to Germany to help build a house for the poor. That professor was so inspired by the gesture that he visited Vinton to learn more about Joseph Hensing.

Other events from Vinton's September 2012 included:

The Palace seating project took place, as the old seats went to a Mount Vernon community theater before the new seats were installed in the renovated theater.

Improvements at the Benton County Nature Center included The Lorax, a chainsaw sculpture by Brian Parr.

The annual Idiot Jam again brought musicians from all over the U.S. to Vinton to play guitars and sing while raising money for the VS Dollars for Scholars program.

Erin Randall and Daniel Ervin were elected 2012 VSHS Homecoming Queen and King.

Vinton WWII and Korea War veteran Le Laton received his Korea medals in a special ceremony led by area veterans groups.

A new fountain replaced the large evergreen tree at the Virginia Gay Hospital. The tree, which had been used for the annual Tree of Lights campaign, was destroyed in the July 2011 wind storm.
