Vinton Popcorn is back -- and coming soon to stores (and perhaps a theater) near you.

After nearly two years of planning by area business leaders and the Entrepreneurship class of Mr. Rick Vettraino at Vinton-Shellsburg High School, the revival of the brand name that made Vinton famous throughout the U.S. decades ago is now putting popcorn in the mouths of area residents.

Several members of that Entrepreneurship class sold popcorn for 50 cents per bag during the basketball game Tuesday evening. They are speaking to Palace leaders this week about putting the popcorn in the local theater, and continue to work with area store managers about putting in on local shelves, beginning with Fareway.

The students -- assisted by a group of local investors and advisors -- have learned many things about business along the way, and have overcome some challenges. The first bags they tried to use to seal the popcorn did not work as they should; the students are now trying a different bag. Yet, they hope to make Vinton Popcorn consistently available in Vinton in the near future.

In addition to selling popcorn, the students passed out bookmarks to fans attending the game, and also offered their own personal Vinton Popcorn business cards to visitors at their table in the school cafeteria.
