The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is really getting excited about Celebration Park and that’s because so many supporters have been very generous to the park fund drive. We are now trying to raise the last $25,000 on the way to our $250,000 goal. The goal got a little closer with the generous gifts from the Yedlik families. The first picture is Jeff Peterson, Fundraising Committee Member with Marilyn & Charles Yedlik with their $5,000 donation check. The second picture is the same group with the $5,000 check from Lucille Yedlik in honor of the Edwin Yedlik Family. Wow! What a generous gift from the Yedlik families!

The department is very hopeful that we will reach our goal in the next few weeks and plan on construction beginning early this spring. The cost estimates for the project were estimated last fall at $250,000 but there are no guarantees that is what they will come in at this spring. Bids for all of the major amenities will be taken with a local preference given. If more funding is received than is needed for the project, a capital fund just for Celebration Park has been established and all funds will stay in that fund and be used for improvements or the maintenance of the park structures.

If you would still like to be a part of this great project, contact me at the VPRD office, 472-4164 or vprdrandall@vintoniowa.net. You can also stop by the VPRD office located at the Vinton Recreation Center or contact fundraising committee members Jeff Peterson, Mark Mossman, Jon Clingman and John Anderson.

JR February 11, 2013, 12:53 pm What types of amenities will be at the park? It will certainly be a nice green space and I hope that there will be river access for paddlers. This could be Phase I of creating a Cedar River Water Trail! I look forward to seeing this happen!
