On Wednesday-February 13, fifth grade students at Shellsburg Elementary took part in a Flag program by the Vinton VFW Post 8884 and VFW Ladies Auxiliary 8884. The Post showed the 125 students how and why a flag is folded when we lose a Veteran. The students had many good questions for our VFW Post 8884. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary told about the history of our US American Flag: who made the 1st one, meaning of the colors of the flag, when to salute the flag, displaying the flag, burning of the flag (only by organizations the correct way), The meaning of each star & stripe, what the flag means to all our Veterans and our Country.
Each student received a bag of flag information from The Auxiliary 8884 to take home with them to show their families and tell them what they learned today about Our emblem of The United States of America.
Our VFW Post & Ladies Auxiliary will also be doing the third grade class at Shellsburg Elementary School.
If any other schools in the area want us to come and talk to your students about our Flag, The Pledge of Allegiance or any other subject about honoring our country it would be our honor to do that.
