A single vehicle accident was reported to the Benton County Sheriff's Office on Sunday June 13, 2010at approximately 6:30 A.M.just north of the junction of state highways 218 & 8, 10 miles west of Vinton. A local farmer observed a motorcycle in the west ditch and stopped to find the driver lying in the ditch in tall grass near the cycle.
The motorcycle had been headed southbound on 218 when it left the roadway on a curve. The motorcycle proceeded along the shoulder of the roadway until it struck a reflector post and went into the ditch coming to rest in tall grassy area.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the accident happened late last night or early this morning before being discovered by the farmer at daylight.
The driver, a 38 year old Dysart man, was transported to Covenant Medical Facility in Waterloowith what was believed serious head injuries. The driver was not wearing a helmet.
The drivers name is not being released until notification of family can be made.
Responding agencies were: TamaCountySheriff’s Office, Dysart Ambulance Service, and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. This accident is currently under investigation by Benton County Sheriff's Office.
