At the annual International Llama Registry’s Show Division (ILR-SD) Gathering of Friends & Champions Llama Show held in Des Moines, over Father’s Day weekend, Aulds’ Lluminous Llamas (www.llamasrus.com) and Aspen Rayne Ranch (www.aspenrayneranch.com) each took home national recognition.
Aspen Auld, a Benton Community High School senior, 2013 Iowa Llama Association Queen and owner of Aspen Rayne Ranch, won National Reserve Grand Champion in Senior Youth Performance, which comprises three different obstacle courses and a showmanship class. She and her performance llama Four Hawkes Earthquake (Quaker) were only in their 4th performance competition together, but this makes the 3rd time they have won either a Reserve of Grand Championship together just this year.
In the halter ring, Aulds’ Lluminous Llamas’ were awarded National Grand Champion Light Wool Male for their 20 month old male, Heatwave’s Beastly Hope (Beast). Beast was coming off a double-Grand Championship at the Northeast Tennessee Llama Show over Memorial Day Weekend. The Aulds are just glad to have him in the ring, period, after last fall when Beast nearly lost an eye to an infection. Twelve intense weeks of treatment are starting to pay off for Beast as judges are starting to appreciate his very correct conformation and eye-catching coloring.
Aspen Rayne Ranch and Aulds’ Lluminous Llamas are co-located 2.5 miles northwest of Van Horne. The farm is open by appointment to visits, tours and llama 101 classes.
