The City of Vinton would like to send out this notice of street projects that will be happening this summer and fall. Since some of these projects are occurring on busy streets, please be prepared to either detour or drive more slowly during in these construction areas.
* IDOT Overlay on Highway 150: Anyone who has traveled the portion of Highway 150 north from 4th Street to 3rd Street and continuing east from C Avenue to 1st Avenue will tell you that this portion of the highway is in need of some significant maintenance. The project is starting with some patching work that is taking place now. The main work will begin on or around July 22 and continue for about 3 weeks. During this time, the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be doing an asphalt overlay of the street and installing sidewalk ramps at the intersections. The work will be done one lane at a time with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone.
* West 15th Street and A Avenue-Crack and Seat: More specifically, this project is on A Avenue from West 13th Street to West 15th Street, and on West 15th Street from A Avenue to C Avenue. This is a city-funded project being paid with some of the funds from the $2 million street improvement bond issue completed earlier this spring. The “crack and seat” project mainly grinds up the pavement and installs an asphalt overlay between the curbs. Our most recent crack and seat project took place on West 4th Street from 8th Avenue to 9th Avenue. Sidewalk ramps will be installed and one sanitary sewer manhole will be replaced. This project will begin late July or early August and is slated to end prior to school starting on August 19th.
* West 13th Street Improvements: This is another city project from the intersection of Highway 218 with West 13th Street, along West 13th Street to the first entrance of the Farm Service facility. This project is being financed by a bond issue completed last year, state grant funds, and federal-aid for street improvement funds. Bids for this project will be taken on July 16th by the IDOT. A late start date is August 19th, and a large majority of the project will likely be completed this year.
The City of Vinton asks for your patience during these construction projects. We know they will be adding a lot to the overall appearance of the city while providing a comfortable, safe means of commuting for residents, students, and the commercial haulers in and out of the Farm Service facility. These projects will add to the quality of life and the economic development of our community. If you have any questions concerning these projects, please call Vinton City Coordinator Andy Lent at 472-4707, or Vinton Street Superintendent Rick Erickson at 472-2768.
