Janice "Jan" L. Leaven

NEWHALL: Janice "Jan" L. Leaven, age 62 of Moravia and formerly of Newhall, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 12, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Rev. Dr. James Eggert officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Newhall. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday also at the church in Newhall. A memorial fund has been established.

Jan was born January 23, 1948 to John and Erna (Engel) Maas at Brandon. She graduated from Benton Community High School in 1966 and attended Kirkwood Community College. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Leaven on November 26, 1989 at Norway.

Jan liked to cook and fish and loved the outdoors around their Lake Rathbun home. Above all her family was her greatest joy.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth Leaven of Moravia; her children, Chris (Mark) Lorber of Waukee, Kevin (Linda) Leaven of Newhall, Kayla (Chris) Christensen of Blairstown, Lisa (Daryl) Wiesender of Cedar Rapids, Kandi (Carlos) Perez of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Christian (Theresa) Seboldt of Ladora; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandson and her brother, Erwin (Joann) Maas of Garwin.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Jason Seboldt, and her two brothers, Henry and Willie Maas.
