Obituaries : Stella M. Butera

Independence—Stella M. Butera, 85, died peacefully Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. Honoring Stella’s wishes, there will be no formal services. She will be inurned with her husband at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Chicago, IL.

Stella Mary Butera was born July 9, 1928 in Chicago, IL, to Stanley and Mary Capija Slovik. She was raised and attended school in Chicago and on July 15, 1950 she married Leroy Butera at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Chicago. After Leroy’s death in 1996, Stella moved to Independence, IA, to be near her son and family. Stella was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence.

She is survived by her son, Ignatius Butera and his wife, Barbara, of Independence; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Schuster and husband, Nick, and their sons, Maxwell and Samuel, Virginia Beach, VA; Matthew Butera, Waterloo, IA; and Rachel Bathen and husband, Jordan, and son, Joseph Charles, Cedar Falls, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy; two sisters and granddaughter, Margaret.

A memorial fund has been established.
