Obituaries : Walter Glen 'Bus' Pardun

HOMOSASSA, Fla. – Walter Glen "Bus" Pardun died at his home in Homosassa, Fla. on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 7:55 p.m. under the care of Hospice.

He was born in Benton County, Iowa on Nov. 20, 1919 and grew up on the family farm attending a country school and graduating from the Brandon High School in 1937.

He was married to Patricia Jane Smith, who survives him, on Nov. 13, 1943 in the Presbyterian Chapel at Cedar Rapids. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Myron (Venice) Fish of Shellsburg and children Paulette Pardun, PhD, Livermore, Colo.; Anthony (Tony) Pardun of Newhall; and Pamela Dunlap of Bourbonnais, Ill.; eight Grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
Glen owned and operated 23 farms in Iowa and Missouri and fed cattle in two big feed lots on the Benton County farms. Glen served on the Brandon School Board, the Benton County Fair Board, and the Benton County Cattle Feeder's Association Board. He was honored by the Soil Conservation Board in 1951 as an "Outstanding Farmer II" for his conservation practices in agriculture being among the first to build terraces in his fields to conserve soil and moisture.
Glen and his wife Pat lived in Independence along the Wapsipinicon River and Golf Course from 1973 to 1983. He retired to their home in Homosassa, Fla., in 1983 and ran a resort on the Homosassa River for the next fifteen years. The Parduns would have celebrated seventy years of their marriage on Wednesday, Nov. 13. They have made their home in Riverhaven Village, Homosassa for the past thirty years. Mr. Pardun was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Crystal River, Fla.
Cremation was under the direction of Wilder's Funeral Home of Homosassam, Fla. (www.wilderfuneral.com) and gravesite services and burial will be at the Bear Creek Cemetery, Harrison Township, Benton County on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.
