Elmer Leo Day, 84 of Vinton, passed away on Thursday November 28, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital Hospice unit, Cedar Rapids. Cremation has been held at his request.

A memorial service will be held Saturday December 7, at 1 P.M. at Blessed Hope Church in Vinton. Inurnment will be at the Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids at a later date.

Elmer was born on December 9, 1928, son of James and Mae (Stewart) Day. He served his country in the US Army. He married Dorothy McIntyre, she preceded him in death on June 25, 2007. Elmer Lived and worked in the Cedar Rapids area most of his life. He retired from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids where he worked as a Janitor. He enjoyed spending time with friends at the coffee shop and being with his best friend Casper his dog.

Survivors include his children, Leon, Elmer Jr. and Alma; a step-daughter, Diana Schweitzer of Springfield, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ron McIntyre of Henderson, Nev., and seven nieces and nephews, and his faithful friend Casper.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two sisters, Margaret Dole and Dorothy Meyers and a brother-in-law, Ron McIntyre.
