VINTON – Denny W. Tharp, 64, died suddenly Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.
A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, February 17, 2014, at First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. Connie Wacht officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment with military honors by Benton County AmVets Post 218 will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton.
Denny was born July 18, 1949, in Vinton, the son of Lois Vogt Tharp. He attended Washington High School in Vinton. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1968-1970.
On February 14, 2004, Denny was united in marriage with Pamala Hartson in Vinton.
Denny was a jack of all trades: he worked in construction, painting and tuckpointing.
He enjoyed time with his family, hunting and fishing. He was at the Benton County Speedway every Sunday during the racing season. You could also find him at garage sales, watching movies in his garage or just tinkering around.
Denny is survived by his wife, Pamala, of Vinton; four sons: Lonnie (Shawn) Vanderpool of Urbana; Chad, Jacob & Logan Tharp, all of Vinton; five daughters: Lori Duve of Dubuque; Amber (Josh) Miles of Clinton, AR; Shelby Sebring of Hawkeye; Misty (Troy Hoffmann) Usher of Manchester; and Tailynn Tharp of Vinton; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ronnie (Darlene) Tharp of Texas and Billy (Sue) Tharp of Vinton; and four sisters: Sandy Dvorak, Debra (Ted Usher) Wheeler, Carla Kearns and Paula Tharp, all of Vinton.
Denny was preceded in death by his mother; one brother, Johnnie Tharp; one sister, Vicki Schuelka; and one nephew, “Little” Ronnie Tharp.
A memorial fund has been established at Farmer’s Savings Bank, Vinton.
