VAN HORNE:

Wilbert D. Sindt, 89, of Story City, formerly of Van Horne, died suddenly Friday, February 28, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne with Rev. David Lingard officiating. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery near Keystone. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday at the church in Van Horne. A memorial fund has been established.

Wilbert was born on September 4, 1924 on a farm in Big Grove Township of Benton County to Will D. and Anna (Paulsen) Sindt. He attended a one room rural school, Big Grove No. 9, through the eighth grade. He graduated from Keystone High School in 1942 as Valedictorian of his class and attended the University of Iowa.

Wilbert was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Rothe at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne in 1952.

Wilbert and Arlene Ann Iburg were married on January 24, 1953 by Pastor A. W. Brauer in the Parsonage of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone. After a wedding trip to Florida they moved to his father's 160 acre farm three miles north of Van Horne. The retired from farming in 1996, but continued to reside on the farm until December 2013.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. He helped organize and served as first President of the Benton Community High School Vocal and Instrumental Promoters - the VIP's.

Wilbert was an honest, hard-working dairy farmer. Wilbert and Arlene received special recognition from Swiss Valley Farms for eleven consecutive years of superior milk quality.

He loved to converse with neighbors, family, friends, and strangers. He was an avid photographer.

He will be missed by family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Story City; his son, Greg (Patty) Sindt of Story City; and his grandchildren, Christa (Ryan) Head of Burnsville, Minn., Amanda (Jason) Ryon of Carlisle, Andrew Sindt and Abigail Sindt of Story City; one great grandson, Noah Ryon and one great granddaughter, Adeline Head.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his still born daughter, Lori Ann; his brother, Roy Sindt; and his sister, Nelda Reider.
