ATKINS: Dale E. Lenaburg, 75, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at his residence following a brief illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Edgewood Family Fellowship in Cedar Rapids with Pastors Peter Kolb and Roger Goodson officiating. Private Committal Services will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL., with Graveside Military Rites. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 5 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time at the church on Thursday. A memorial fund has been established.

Dale was born March 5, 1939 in Cedar Rapids to Edward and Alma (Schliemann) Lenaburg and graduated from the Van Horne High School in 1957.

From 1961 to 1966 he served his nation in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. As an active member of the Adolph H. Schueler American Legion post #217 of Atkins he served as Past 3rd District Commander and was the current Chaplain of Post #217.

Dale was employed as an auto mechanic at several local dealerships, retiring from Pat McGrath in Cedar Rapids in 2004.

He was a member of Edgewood Family Fellowship in Cedar Rapids. Dale was always willing to help his friends and neighbors. He loved camping, fishing, working in the garden and attending Iowa Hawkeye Women's Basketball Games. His greatest joy came from spending time with his granddaughters.

Dale is survived by his wife, Valetta of Atkins. They were married July 9, 1961 in Waterloo. He is also survived by his daughter, Julene (James) Udell of Atkins; his son, Lonnie (Brenda) Lenaburg of Mooresville, NC; his granddaughters, Darci, Sarah and Kaitlin; two step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; his brothers, Herman (Marlene) Lenaburg of Rock Falls, IL and Kay (Geraldine) Lenaburg of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Elaine (David) Haren of Belle Plaine; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Orlo Lenaburg; and his nephew, Brian Lenaburg.
