Marguerite M. Rathje
NEWHALL: Marguerite M. Rathje, 95, formerly of Newhall, died peacefully at Virginia Gay Hospital on Saturday, July 12, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave. in Vinton with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery, Newhall. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the Family Center.
Marguerite was born September 13, 1918 to John and Christina Elizabeth (Werning) Rathje. She attended Newhall High School and worked for many years at Peoples Bank & Trust in Cedar Rapids as a bookkeeper. She moved to LaFeria, Texas in 1980 with her good friends Jim and Joyce Pospishil. She returned to Iowa and has resided at the Vinton Lutheran Home since October, 2010. Marguerite was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall.
She is survived by her niece, Mary Kennedy (Rick Flynn) of Fairfax; and her nephews, Martin (Roxanne) Rathje of Ankeny, Stephen (Beth) Rathje of Newhall and Timothy (Tamara) Rathje of Atkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Paul Rathje and a brother in infancy.
