Vernie L. Olson

VINTON: Vernie L. Olson, 89, died peacefully at the Vinton Lutheran Home on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Jessica Crane - Munoz officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Vernie was born December 24, 1924 near Watkins, the daughter of John R. and Mary Jane (Nolan) Schulte. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton with the class of 1943. On August 29, 1944, she was united in marriage to Erick E. Olson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton. Erick preceded Vernie in death in 2004. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton. Vernie had a zest for life and especially enjoyed walking and spending time with her friends and family.

Vernie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jodie Olson of Menomonie, WI; three grandchildren, Beth (Brent) McLeod of Menomonie, WI, Andrew (Erin) Olson of St. Charles, MO, Aaron (Rebecca) Olson of Menomonie, WI; nine great grandchildren, Jordan (Kayla), Lauren, Madeline and Briannan McLeod, all of Menomonie, WI, Avery, Eric and Annika Olson, all of St. Charles, MO, Ariella and Marschall Olson, both of Menomonie, WI; her sister, Hazel Merchant and her brother, Harold Schulte, both of Vinton and her special friend, Bob Dahl of Vinton

In addition to her husband Erick, Vernie was preceded in death by her parents, her son Darrel Olson and her sister, Pearl Sturtz.
