GARRISON: James Lawrence Hill, 54, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at his home in Garrison with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Geo. G. Hardinger American Legion Post # 475 at the Garrison Cemetery on Tuesday.

James was born August 14, 1960 at Cedar Rapids to Harold and Mabel (Glandon) Hill and graduated from Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School in 1979. He served his nation in the U.S. Army and was employed at Twin City Concrete in Vinton.

On November 20, 1981 he married Sue Shebetka at Butler, OK.

James was a member of the Garrison Fire Dept. and enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle.

In addition to his wife, Sue of Garrison, he is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Travis) Losenicky of Garrison and Felicia (Chad Galli) Hill of Urbana; his grandchildren, Tyler Losenicky and Kynsley Galli; his step-mother, Frances Vanmatre and husband, Lee of Bloomfield, MO; his brother, William (Joyce) Ostrander of Runnels; and his sister, Caryn Lau of Boonville, MO..

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and sister, Glenda.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
