VINTON – Helen P. Leonard, 82, of Vinton, died peacefully Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Windsor Manor in Vinton.
A memorial visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, August 13, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. A memorial service officiated by Pastor Larry Rodgers will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 13, also at the funeral home. Helen’s wishes were to be cremated, and inurnment will be held at a later date in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Helen was born January 15, 1928, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the daughter of John Raymond and Violet Walker Gommels. She was raised in Ruthven, Iowa, and graduated from Ruthven High School.
On July 3, 1954, Helen was united in marriage with Wayne Thompson in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1961. On October 2, 1962, Helen married Charles Leonard in Minnesota. He preceded her in death on November 10, 1992.
Helen spent her life raising her children and caring for her family’s home. She enjoyed bowling and sewing.
Helen is survived by one son, John (Lisa) Leonard of Vinton; two daughters: Dawn (Roy) Greenwood of Vinton and Ann (Randy) Moore of Des Moines; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one son, Jeff Leonard; and one sister, Shirley Meier.
A memorial fund has been established.
