MT. AUBURN: Wendell Carl Wilson, 87, died Monday, October 13, 2014 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave., in Vinton with Pastor Mike Ferguson officiating. Interment will be held at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery with Flag Presentation by Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post #177 of Mt. Auburn. Friends may call at the family center from 5 to 7 p.m on Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established for the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church and the Mt. Auburn Legion Post #177.

Wendell was one of triplet sons born near Mt. Auburn to Clifford and Flossie May (Arthur) Wilson on December 19, 1926. He graduated from the Mt. Auburn High School in 1944. He served his nation in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War.

He married Leona Kruger on January 11, 1959 in Cedar Rapids. She preceded him in death on October 5, 1981. On October 1, 1983 he married Helen Studebaker who preceded him in death on June 15, 2003.

Wendell retired from farming in 1984 and from John Deere in 1987 after twenty-three years with the manufacturer.

Wendell was a member of the Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post #177 in Mt. Auburn where he had served as Post Commander. He was also a life-long member of the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church.

He is survived by step-children from Leona's family, Larry (June) Kruger of Vinton and Shirley (Jim) Batchelder of Brentwood, CA; three step-sons, from Helen's family, Thomas (Tang) Studebaker of Blytheville, AK, James (Dixie) Studebaker of Coon Rapids, MN, and Harold Studebaker of North Liberty; and his sisters-in-law, Bernice Wilson of Vinton; and Betty Wilson of Washburn.

In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by his triplet siblings, Waldo and Wallace Wilson and his older brother, Arthur Wilson.

A kind and much loved man, he will be missed by many. "Rest in Peace, Wendell".
