VINTON – Betty Evelyn Grimm, 91, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor Mark C. Urlaub officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will be in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
Betty was born February 5, 1923, in Mt. Auburn, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Ruby Byous Struve. She graduated from Mt. Auburn High School in 1941.
On January 23, 1944, Betty was united in marriage with Morris Dean Grimm at her parents’ home in Vinton. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2001. Betty was a homemaker and spent her time caring for her children.
She was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Navy Mothers, the Eagles’ Auxiliary and the Mt. Auburn Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping and dancing with her husband; watching the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball; and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her son, Rodney Grimm, of Vinton; her daughter, Jackie (Loren Seitz) Behounek of Vinton; one brother, Ken (Darlene) Struve of Vinton; sister-in-law Marlys Higdon of Vinton; four grandchildren: Angie (Evan) Shanley, Garrett (Tonia) Smith, Jessica (Tom) Gibson and Beth (Brian) Krutz; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Dean; son-in-law Tony Behounek; three brothers: Glen Struve, Weldon Struve, and Roger Dale Struve in infancy; and one sister, Bernice Rhoads.
A memorial fund has been established.
