NEWHALL:

Raymond A. Williams, 99, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Atkins. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., on Monday at the church in Newhall. A memorial fund has been established for St. John Lutheran Church. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond was born on November 8, 1915 in rural Newhall, the son of John and Emma (Kerkman) Williams. He married Jean Kell on February 27, 1943 at the St. Stephen's Lutheran Parsonage in Atkins. Jean preceded Ray in death on November 3, 2009. Ray farmed in the Newhall area and worked as a machinist at Midland Forge, retiring in 1981.

Ray was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, the Leisure Club and enjoyed membership in several card clubs.

He is survived by his daughters, Ruth (Larry) Shannon of Hiawatha and Kay Williams of Dumfries, VA; three grandchildren, Roberta L. (Shawn) Goodman of Baxter Springs, KS, John M. Shannon of Hiawatha and Jackie A. (Jamie) Wagner of Cedar Rapids and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife Jean, he was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Fair; three brothers, Clarence, Harold and Elmer Williams and his sister Elsie Knaack.
