VINTON – Glenn W. Anderson, 93, died Friday, August 20, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Ron Sumption officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 22, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday. Interment and committal services will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, with Pastor Jim Blair officiating.

Glenn was born April 28, 1917, on the family farm in rural Vinton, the son of William Carl and Victoria “Cora” Vlasta Barta Anderson. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Vinton.

On August 28, 1943, Glenn was united in marriage with Mary O. Garwood in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed in Benton County. In 2007, Glenn and Mary moved to Windsor Manor Assisted Living in Vinton. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2009.

Glenn loved his home on the farm and took great pride in tending his lawn. He also enjoyed woodworking in his garage shop. His greatest joy was time spent with family.

He was a member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder.

Glenn is survived by one son, John (Barbara) Anderson of Vinton; one daughter, Janet (Richard) Williams of Vinton; five grandchildren: Matthew (Rachel) Anderson, Melanie (Ryan) Davis, Maria (Tracy) Davis and Paul (Stephonie) Williams, all of Vinton; and Jim (Anna) Williams of Clarion; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Howard (Evelyn) Anderson of Columbia, TN; Warren (Pat) Anderson of Grinnell; and Jim (Barb) Anderson of Vinton; and one sister, Lucille White of Hills.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers: Ivan and Forrest Anderson; and three sisters: Mabel Dunakey, Dorothy Benson and Irene Johannessen.

A memorial fund has been established.
