VINTON – Louis E. Trachta, 87, died Thursday, February 19, 2015, at his home in Vinton due to natural causes.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Father Ardel Barta officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton.
Louis was born May 25, 1927, in Chester, Iowa, the son of Louis Elwin and Mary Pisney Trachta, Sr.
Louis proudly served his country in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany, building bridges and driving truck.
On August 17, 1958, Louis was united in marriage with Mary Josephine Deterding at the Catholic church in Elma, Iowa.
He worked at the light plant for the City of Vinton, and he also farmed and worked in a rock quarry.
Louis was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton.
Louis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Jo Trachta, of Vinton; one son, Don "Bugsy" (Kim) Trachta; one daughter, Debra (Dana) Anderson of Maine; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Ray, Paul and Joe Trachta; and one sister, Betty.
A memorial fund has been established.
