VINTON – Helen Mae Staton, 78, passed away peacefully Friday, April 10, 2015, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Blessed Hope Church in Vinton with Rev. Matt Hantz officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 13, also at the church. Per Helen’s wishes, she will be cremated following services. Inurnment will be held in Vinton at a later date.
Helen was born May 19, 1936, near Garrison, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Ethel Noe McNeal. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1954. Following graduation, Helen worked at the Vinton canning factory. She later worked as an inspector at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 36 years, retiring in 1991.
On March 27, 1965, Helen was united in marriage with Norval R. Staton at the Assembly of God Church in Vinton.
Helen was a member of Blessed Hope Church and participated on the Fellowship Team. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and birdwatching and was a cat lover.
Helen is survived by her husband of 50 years, Norval Staton of Vinton; one son, Darrell (Kevin) Staton of Vinton; one brother, Harley (Mamie) McNeal of Davenport; two sisters, Leota Sailer of Independence and Rosalie (Carl) Zeller of Walker; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Missy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Luella Griffioen; and two brothers-in-law, Dick Sailer and Duane Griffioen.
A memorial fund has been established.
