VINTON – Gary LuVerne Plogmann, 73, died Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Traer with Rev. David Gensch officiating. Inurnment will be in West Union Cemetery, Traer.
Gary was born October 5, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of LuVerne and Leona Dengler Plogmann. He graduated from Traer High School in 1958.
On June 22, 1958, Gary was united in marriage with Darlene Latting at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Traer. They were both members of the church.
In the 1960s, Gary worked for Wieck’s Feed in Dysart. In the early 1980s, Gary bought the business and it became Gary’s Feed and Livestock. He was a black jack dealer at Meskwaki Casino in Tama for 12 years, and he also worked as a valet at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.
Gary was an officer on the Dysart Fire and Ambulance crew for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and going to the casino.
Gary is survived by his wife, Darlene Plogmann of Vinton; two children, Allan (Linda) Plogmann of Alto, GA, and Teresa (Gary) McKenna of Vinton; sister LaVon (Tim) VandeKamp of Gilman; brother-in-law Robert Latting of Grinnell; four grandchildren: Andrew and Ashley McKenna, Danielle (Marty) Hardon and Jennifer (Corey) Thiessen; and four great-grandchildren: Catherine, Grace, Shayla and Alexis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother- and father-in-law, Webster and Dorothy Latting.
A memorial fund has been established.

KF June 28, 2015, 10:34 pm Gary will be missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to have met him. The Virginia Gay family has lost one of their own and our prayers are with his family and friends.
JA June 29, 2015, 1:18 pm I so enjoyed Gary when he worked for TBC. He was always one to call when I needed a laugh. I shall miss seeing him and talking with him. He was always one of the good guys.
WF June 30, 2015, 11:57 am Gary will be soooo missed! He was my daughter Lainey\'s FAVORITE person at VGH!!! He was so kind and even would walk us out to the car every Tuesday holding my daughters hand. We have been praying for Gary every night for the last month knowing that he had a surgery coming up! I will now continue to pray for his family in this time of loss. Miss you Gary!!! You were a GREAT man!!!
