Vinton—Frank William Ohlsen, 68, died Friday, August 28, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Judith Bunyi officiating. Following lunch at the church, burial with military rites will be in the Dysart Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 31, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton.
Frank William Ohlsen was born January 7, 1947 in Waterloo, IA the only son of John and Eva Jabens Ohlsen. He grew up in Dysart and graduated from Dysart High School in 1965. Frank farmed for a year and then joined the U.S. Air Force. In January, 1983 he married Judy Greger at the family farm near Dysart. Frank farmed for twenty five years and then sold insurance for twenty one years. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton and the Dysart American Legion Post. Frank enjoyed fishing and bowling but his real love was his family and his numerous friends. He truly enjoyed helping others.
Frank is survived by his mother, Eva, of Vinton; wife Judy, of Vinton; sons, John (Ev) Ohlsen of Kellogg, IA and Jeff (Shelley) Peters of Dysart; eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father, John.
A memorial fund has been established.
