NEWHALL:

Eldon H. Von Ahsen, 92, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 4, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery near Newhall. Friends may call at the church from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Eldon was born May 22, 1923 in Williamsburg to Otto and Anna (Hudepohl) Von Ahsen. He was raised on a farm near Williamsburg.

On August 8, 1946 he was united in marriage to Helen Smith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. The couple moved to Newhall in 1968, where he farmed the rest of his life.

Eldon was a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Newhall; his son, Dennis (Pinky) Von Ahsen of Newhall; his grandsons, Nick (Angie) Von Ahsen and Jeff Von Ahsen, all of Atkins; his great grandchildren, Will, Emma and Owen; his sisters, Lorena Joseph of Columbus, NE, and Laverna Oakes of Huntington Beach, CA; his sisters-in-law, Esther Von Ahsen of Keystone and Darlene Von Ahsen of Amana; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sandra Kay Von Ahsen in 2012; his brother, Mervin and his brothers-in-law, Jerry Joseph, Nolan Oakes, and Erwin Von Ahsen.
