Gail C. Shaffer, 85 died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the University Park Nursing and Rehab. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sat., Oct 24, 2015 Brandon Cemetery, Brandon, IA.
Gail was born August 2, 1930 to Arthur and Lura (McKinley) Shaffer in Vinton, Iowa. He lived in Brandon, Iowa till joining the Air Force and serving in the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan, Korea, Texas and Washington D.C before his discharge. Gail was united in marriage to Betty Schwartz on May 25, 1963.
Gail and Betty made their home in Perry, IA where he worked at Vigortone Premixes. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #407 for many years, it was extremely important to him. After retirement Gail and Betty moved to Apache Junction, AZ and returning to Iowa in 2000.
Gail enjoyed fishing and watching baseball especially the Chicago Cubs. He loved to talk politics , having a good discussion and debate with family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Chris Shaffer of Des Moines; Daughter Bettina (Damien) Pinches of Rosebud Victoria AU; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Betty ; son David Lenz; daughter-in-law Heather Shaffer; brother Russell and his wife Norma; sister Arlene Thompson and granddaughter Paula Badker.
Hastings Funeral Home in Perry are in charge of the arraignments. An Elk service was held Oct 17, 2015 in Perry, Iowa.
