VINTON:

Ned E. Douglas, 66, died suddenly Friday, November 6, 2015.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton with Pastor Kurt Brubaker officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton with graveside military rites. Visitation will be held from noon until service time Tuesday at the Funeral Home. An educational memorial fund has been established for Ned’s son and grandsons.

Ned was born November 21, 1948 in Vinton to James Robert “J.R.” and Marjorie (Hilton) Douglas and graduated from the Urbana High School in 1967. He served his Country in the United States Army as an M.P. in Germany. He married Kathryn (Kuhn) Prior in November of 1975 at the Prairie Creek Church. The couple later divorced. Ned farmed the Douglas family farm and worked as a bundle hauler for the Cedar Rapids Gazette for 20 years.

He was a member of the Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post # 264 in Urbana.

He enjoyed the outdoors, mushroom hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed trips to Missouri, deer hunting with his cousin Troy. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed playing cards on the computer and attending state fairs in Iowa and Missouri.

Survivors include his sons, Travis (Salina) Prior of Rowley and Austin Jacob Douglas, son of Patti Lacy of Vinton; his twin grandsons, Timothy and Thomas Prior; three sisters, Barbara Dawson of New Palestine, IN, Susie (Doug) Sovers of Cedar Rapids and Judy (Dan) Herring of Vinton; his nephew Tim Stainbrook of Vinton; his aunt Mary Jane Nichols of Columbia, MO and several cousins in Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Ellen and his brother-in-law Leroy Dawson.
