VINTON - Earlene I. Phelps, 75, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015 following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home with Pastor David Condry officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday, December 15 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Earlene was born December 11, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Earl and Leila Christopher Rundel. She was raised and attended school in La Porte City. On December 11, 1954 she married Junior Ray Phelps. Earlene worked as a cook and waitress at John’s Quik Stop in Urbana, Cafe 218 and Barlow Foods. She also worked many years as a CNA at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton.

Earlene’s favorite activity was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, Western movies and game shows.

She is survived by her husband, Junior, Dysart; daughters, Glenna (Darryl) McNeal, Patty (David) Linsley and Connie Gilbert all of Vinton; sisters, Evelyn Lang, Winthrop and Carol (Delbert) Brown, Waterloo; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons in infancy; three brothers, Clyde, Clarence and Roy and three sisters, Dorothy Neuenkirk, Lois Widdel and Mert Hare.

A memorial fund has been established.
