Wilma Kubu

BELLE PLAINE: Wilma J. Kubu, 91 of Marion and formerly of Belle Plaine died Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, December 21, 2015 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Belle Plaine with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Interment will be in the Dysart Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 PM, Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, 92 5th Avenue, Keystone. A Memorial Fund has been established for St. Michael Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma was born November 13, 1924 in York Township in rural Iowa County to Joseph and Mary Agnes (Madera) Breja. She was united in marriage to George Thomas Kubu on February 22, 1943 in Chelsea, Iowa. George preceded her in death on June 21, 1995.

Wilma loved to garden especially hybrid tea roses, sewing, cooking, baking and making handmade rosaries. She also enjoyed attending St. Michael's Catholic Church and participating in church activities.

She is survived by her son, Gene (Jean) Kubu; her daughter, Manon (Don) Coons; her grandsons, Talion (Sara) Kubu and Jeremiah Johnson; her great grandchildren, Tyller, Ben, Nicholas and Anna Kubu and Kyleigh Johnson. She is also survived by many her double nieces and nephews, Norm Henderson, Richard Kubu and Carma Kubu and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her sister; four brothers; daughter, Gwendolyn; granddaughter, Jessica Johnson and grandson, Gregory Kubu.
