VINTON - Fern Cecelia Henrietta Lewis, 94, of Vinton, died Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
   Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor Mike Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Committal services will be held in the Dysart Cemetery, Dysart, Iowa, at 1:30 p.m.
   Fern was born October 14, 1921, in Dysart, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mata Prueter Scheel. She attended Homer Township #5 country school.
   On December 27, 1945, Fern was united in marriage with Marvin Charles Lewis at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. The couple worked together at Me Too Grocery in Vinton, and also as custodians at US Bank. They retired together in 1984. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1993.
   Fern was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, holding volunteer positions in various church groups. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
   Fern enjoyed crocheting Afghans and following the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and Kirkwood Eagles baseball. Her greatest joy came from being a faithful wife, mother and grandmother.
   Fern is survived by her son, John (Sandy) Lewis of Fairfax; two grandsons: Jeremy (Erin) Lewis of Coralville and Darren (Erica) Lewis of Cedar Rapids; and six great-grandchildren: Morgan, Bronx, Jeter, Gehrig, Sutton and Hampton.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter Linda Lou Lewis; sister Gladys Scheel; brother Cecil Scheel; and friend John.
   Memorial contributions may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church.
