Vinton—Lyle W. “Willy” Williams, 83, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 under hospice care at St Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 14, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Private family burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Lyle Wayne Williams was born December 28, 1932 in Vinton, the son of Zina Carl Williams and Hazel Marie Hunt Williams. He attended school in Vinton and served his country in the United States Army from 1953-55. On April 29, 1960 he married Mary Lundahl in Vinton. Willy was a mechanic for Utterback Ford, Ervin Motor and Ron’s Conoco, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Vinton American Legion Post # 57. Willy enjoyed socializing with his many friends and working in his yard in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary, Vinton; step-son, Gregg (Edy) Albert, Greensboro, NC; brother, Harley (Edith) Williams, La Porte City, several nieces, nephews and special nephew, Jimmy.
Willy was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Everett and Bob Williams and sister, Maxine Buchan.
A memorial fund has been established.
