Tom Kueny

VINTON – Thomas Beresford Kueny, 70, died Sunday, August 21, 2016, at his home in Vinton.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Military rites will be performed at 7 p.m. by George G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 of Vinton and U.S. Navy Funeral Honors. Tom’s wishes were to be cremated. Private family inurnment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, at a later date, and partial scattering of his remains in the Pacific Ocean will be handled by the United States Navy.
Tom was born August 1, 1946, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Francis and Bess Beresford Kueny. He was a graduate of Washington High School in Vinton and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business on two coasts while working full-time. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam and the Middle East. He was a member of AMVETS.
Following his military service, Tom lived and worked in Florida and California before returning to Iowa to farm. He briefly worked for Iowa Farmer Today in sales and had been a Territory Manager in Iowa for Cargill of Minneapolis before retiring due to health complications.
On June 9, 1999, Tom was united in marriage with Sherry Crawford in Vinton. The couple loved cooking together and frequently shared wonderful meals they prepared themselves. They also loved camping, reading and watching movies together.
Tom enjoyed gardening and raising his own herbs, photography and reading history. He was a wonderful chef and a great lover of dogs.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sherry Crawford, of Vinton; three daughters: Ginny (Dan) Briggs of Allen, TX; Julie (Mike) Feldman of Des Moines; and Shannon (Rick) Gilbride of Omaha, NE; two step-children: Melinda Nelson of Richfield, MN; and Andy (Steve Durhman) Nelson of Maiden Rock, WI; two brothers: Jon (Ginger) Kueny of Tampa, FL; and Chris (Amy) Kueny of San Francisco, CA; two sisters: Carolyn Kleiner of Duluth, MN; and Rosemary Kueny of North Liberty; and 14 grandchildren: Ryan, Lara, Abby, Tess, Annie, Ellie, Becca, Cassidy, Kayla, Claudia, Drake, Roman, Khloe and Maxx.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Richard and Paul Kueny; and one grandson, Mac Feldman.
