CEDAR RAPIDS: Gary R. Turner, 72 of Cedar Rapids died August 24, 2016 at his home in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, August 29, 2016 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery near Brandon with full military rites conducted by the Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Visitation will be from 2 – 5 PM Sunday also at the funeral home.

Gary was born February 26, 1944 in Gardner, Kansas to William S. Turner and Ima Jean Franklin. He graduated from High School and attended school to become an electrician. Gary served his country in the United States Army as a medic during Vietnam. He worked as an electrician and horse trainer.

In 2003 he was united in marriage to Marlene Gardner. Gary was a member and past president of the Cedar Rapids Horseman’s Club and was the Founder and Commander of the Iowa Veterans Mounted Color Guard.

Gary is survived by his wife, Marlene; his children, Brad Turner, John (Josephine)Turner,Tracy (Wayne) Fisher, Jennifer (Mark) Redlinger and Danielle(Christian) Lybbert; his step-children, Mike Nolte, and Diana Jones,11 grandchildren; 2 Step-Grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; his siblings , Cheryl (Harold) Knaack, Sandra (Mike) Cox, Patty Powers, Betty (Mark) Shea, RobinPowers, Robert Smalley and MarcSmalley, Alta (Merle) Feuerborne, Kay (Bob) Blazek, Darlene Lambert, Sharon Turner, Larry (Jan) Turner, Ginger (Dennis) Edrington, Randy (Dee) Turner and Sandy (Leon) Kramer, sister-in-law, Jan Turner, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Vicky, Bradley, Jerry, Lorraine, David and Glen Turner, and Roger Powers.
